Happy May Day from Berlin, today’s news will celebrate all things WORK related. 

We also welcome four new members: Emmy Oost and Moon Blaise, winners of the DAE encouragement prize at Visions du Réel with their project The Miracle of Almería and from the Docudays Ukrainian Doc Preview presentation, Olga Beskhmelnitsyna and Polina Kelm, who presented their project The Elf’s Tower.

Congratulations to regular Friday Hangout participants Venice Atienza and Fan Wu with their project Last Days at Sea and Farah Kassem’s We are inside (Nahnou Fil Dakhel), both projects swooped up prizes during the VdR Industry awards yesterday.

Join a 5-part series of the art of the edit for free with RCS:

  • From May 11-15, our friends at the Rough Cut Service are hosting a series of masterclasses with internationally renowned experts including Iikka Vehkalahti, Niels Pagh Andersen, Mary Stephen, Anne Fabini and Yael Bitton, amongst a starry lineup. The voluntary fees are waived for DAE members. More information will be on the roughcut service website next week. Links to follow.

What are we up to:

  • We are excited to participate in Networks for Future! at Dok.Fest Munich this week. Join Marion Schmidt and the  fishbowl conversation moderated by Ove Rishøj Jensen (Paradiddle Pictures) with the experts Isabel Arrate-Fernandez (IDFA Bertha Fund), Sonia Hausséguy (Crew United). Tuesday May 5 from 14:00 CET. We will also award an encouragement prize at the Dok.Fest Forum and Roland Löbner is available for consultations.
  • On Friday May 1, 16:00 CET, we’ll also present the network at Docudays together with the newly formed The Ukrainian Non-Fiction Cinema Guild and Estonian Documentary Guild.
